The Rumor Mill

Facts: Quin Snyder is buckling under the post-Norm pressure. He had some success with Norm's leftover players early in his tenure, but has failed to get into the NCAA's two straight years. Now his Tigers are in 11th place in the Big 12 after losing five straight games.

Athletic director Mike Alden has been under fire for tacitly approving of the basketball team's NCAA violations by not firing Quin then. (How can a head coach keep his job by saying he didn't know his assistants were breaking the rules? Where is the accountability?) Alden is also responsible for skyrocketing ticket prices, reduced parking for sporting events, and forcing out Norm Stewart in favor of an unproven Quin Snyder.

Rumors: Bobby Knight is looking for real estate in the Columbia area. (I have heard this from two different sources.) Bobby and Norm are good friends. Mike Alden will be fired and replaced by Norm Stewart as A.D. Norm will fire Quin Snyder and replace him with Bobby Knight. Knight has a nasty reputation, but not for having consecutive losing seasons, recruiting violations, low graduation rates, and buck-passing. Could the General be coming to Mizzou?

I can't see Norm as the AD. I could see Knight as the coach though. I'd like to see them hire Kim Anderson myself.

Anderson is a decent choice, but I think we need a real power-player to bring the program back to prominence. Did anyone see Baylor whip us tonight? If Baylor can win one more game this year (which seems more likely than us winning one) then the Tigers will finish dead last in the Big 12. It will take a top level coach to turn this program around.

I don't think you're going to get a top level coach to come here with the possilbe exception of the General. I think it will take someone who's bleeds black and gold. A job like this requires some degree of understanding what MU basketball is about. It's not easy to recruit top notch players to MU. It requires dogged effort. Norm wasn't the greatest coach, but he was a great, hardworking coach. It's too bad that so many people didn't see it before his program took such a beating.

The MU job is a job that will eat young coaches like Quinn. It will spit them out.

If you can't get a proven top level coach, you better go ahead and get one with Tiger Blood and a Mule streak.

MU used to have a marketing campaign called, "Beware the Hungry Tiger". Some of my buddies at CMSU gave it their own twist with, "Beware the Thirsty Mule." Maybe Anderson is our man.
